Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
