Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
