The families of young people missing after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting any details about their children via social media.

The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Circulated footage reveal the roof structure catching alight as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the disaster, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another over a hundred. Officials said on Friday that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to identify the other six.
