Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
